“로토파거스의 커피, 오디세우스의 시선”

LG의 신제품 투명 OLED 디스플레이를 홍보하기 위해, 서울 한남동의 앤드러사이트 카페에 설치된 몰입형 인스톨레이션입니다.
이 작업은 그리스 신화의 오디세우스 이야기를 현대적으로 재해석하며, ‘투명함’이라는 키워드와 ‘기억과 망각’의 모티프를 연결합니다.

설치물의 스토리는 트로이 전쟁 이후 귀향하던 오디세우스가 로토파거스 섬에 표착하면서 시작됩니다.
그곳에서 부하들은 신비한 열매 ‘로투스’를 먹고 현실을 망각한 채 섬에 머물고자 하는 욕망에 빠지지만, 오디세우스는 그들을 다시 깨워 고향으로 이끕니다.

이 이야기를 빌려와, 오늘날 현대인이 커피를 마시며 멈추는 순간과, 도심 속 신비한 섬 같은 공간을 연결지었습니다.
오디세우스의 시점에서 커피와 시간을 마주하는 관객은, 투명 OLED를 통해 현실과 환상의 경계를 경험하게 됩니다.

“The Lotus Eaters: A Journey Through Odysseus’ Eyes”

An immersive installation created to promote LG’s new Transparent OLED display, presented at Anthracite Hannam in Seoul.
Inspired by the myth of Odysseus and the Lotus Eaters, the work reimagines ancient narrative through the lens of modern urban life, using the transparency of OLED as a metaphor for blurred realities and forgotten paths.

After the Trojan War, Odysseus is stranded on the island of the Lotus Eaters, where his crew eats the mystical lotus fruit and falls into a state of forgetfulness and blissful lethargy, wishing to remain on the island forever.
Odysseus, however, rescues them—reminding them of home and purpose.

The installation parallels this story with the act of drinking coffee—a modern-day “lotus fruit.”
Visitors are invited to experience the café space as a mythical island, where the boundary between fantasy and reality is refracted through transparent OLED screens, all seen from Odysseus’ point of view.
